Mysterio ate at 太二酸菜鱼.

Tai Er 太二酸菜鱼

Tai Er originated from china and was established in 2015. This store specialised in their Suancai & Fish! When you reached this outlet in Suntec City, you are able to see the chef cooking their dishes in the wok, very transparent in their cooking which is a good thing. Usually stores like this are very confident in their dishes as well as wanted to display their chef cooking skills. [Reminded Mysterio Din Tai Fung, or maybe its a chinese thing?]

The first thing that struck Mysterio when you enter Tai Er is the aroma of the Suancai that was splashed in hot oil. In addition to that the decor was modern and chic, the restaurant had a warm and welcoming vibe. Not only that, the staff immediately attended to us which is excellent service.

Chinese Sauerkraut fish

Moving on, Mysterio ordered their main dish Chinese sauerkraut fish and a cold dish which is sliced beef and Ox tongue in chilli sauce . There is an online menu for it via their app which can be access via the QR code on each table. The Chinese sauerkraut fish is topped with their iconic Suancai (preserved vegetable), dried chilli and petals of chinese chrysanthemum. The presentation of the dish was impeccable and the waiter will kind of say some chinese words which Mysterio didnt managed to catch, but believed to be their slogan or something. (Apologies for this as Mysterio was too engrossed with the sauerkraut fish and wasnt paying attention).

Taste:

The fish was very good. The first bite into it, you can feel the smoothness and silkyness of the fish, then comes the spiciness which will hits you. However, Mysterio felt that the fish is a little too thinly sliced. The spicy broth was incredibly rich and flavorful, and it had a perfect balance of spiciness and sourness from the pickled vegetables. This combines with the fish, in terms of both the flavors and the texture was truly outstanding. In addition, the portion size is quite generous.

The broth pairs well with rice which you can order either a full bowl or half size.

**Do note that this dish varies by size, where $49 is good for 1-2 persons, $69 is good for 3-4 persons, and $89 is for big group.

Add-ons for main dish

There is also an option to add on where you can select the number of servings for each add-on. Highly recommended to add on glass noodle and enoki mushrooms as it complements the main dish well where it absorb the Suancai sauce and flavor.

As for the cold dish, this is the sliced beef with Ox tongue with chilli sauce.

Sliced Beef and Ox tongue (cold dish)

The sliced beef and Ox tongue is thinly sliced and cooked just right, where it is soft and tender. The chilli sauce is kind of like Mala chilli which pairs well with the meat. As this is a cold dish, it is served cold and surprisingly, it is quite refreshing when Mysterio ate this. However, do note that the bottom of this dish is stacked with celery stems and it is not entirely all meat, so it can be deceiving.

Last but not least, there are free drinks available. This hot drink is self served where there is a little counter at the back and side of the store. You are able to choose the number of roselle and mandarin orange peels to add to your drink, but the recommended ratio is 2 roselle and 3 mandarin peels. The roselle gives it the redish color that you see and the mandarin peels give the sourness in the drinks, so Mysterio recommends that you put maybe 3-4 roselle and 2-3 mandarin peels instead.

Verdict:

Mysterio rated it 4.5/5 stars. From the ambience to the taste, there is no doubt that this restaurant is top notch and best chinese spicy fish, however, the slight dissappointment comes from the cold dish where the bottom layer is hidden with celery stems to make it looks like there is a lot more meat in it. Other than that, TAI ER 太二酸菜鱼 is highly recommended where Mysterio said "This store is definitely worth the try".
