Mysterio stumble upon Joo Mak, a lesser know KBBQ right in Beauty World Centre.

In Singapore, the most common area people will go for a hearty KBBQ is always Tanjong Pagar where you will find rows of shophouse that is selling korean BBQ.

However, beauty world can be considered another hidden gem when for food. You will be spoilt for choice as there are many stalls selling a wide range of food category for different price range too.

Joo Mak is a stall that is run by koreans, a young handsome gentlemen was serving us when we patronise it, and another women was attending to other customers as well as managing the counter.

Joo Mak sells a variety of food that ranges from Jajang noodle, kimchi stew, kimchi pancake, ginseng chicken soup etc, those common food that you can find at most koreans restaurant. Today Mysterio tried out Jajang Noodle for the carbs to have a gauge on their food quality.

Jajang Noodle is cooked with black bean stired fried with onions and meat, topped with some cucumbers for a more refreshing taste. The black bean sauce in general tasted okay, nothing spectacular about it, but the noodle itself is the one that helps to elevate this dish. The noodle is springy and have a good texture to it, when mixed with the black bean sauce, it makes you wanting to take a few more bites.

Moving onto the highlight, the picture above shows the pricing of their BBQ combo. Take note that the grill is charcoal type and the handsome korean guy will help you to cook the meat. Mysterio and company only had 2 persons when patronising Joo Mak, thus went for the combo #1 which includes 1 part beef ribeye, 1 part pork belly and 1 part of seasoned pork collar.

Dinner is shortly served upon ordering. Quite a lot of side dishes is accompanied with the main dish. The side dishes includes:

-> Kimchi

-> Fried eggs

-> Mashed potatoes

-> Pickled cucumbers

-> Fish cakes

Mysterio is quite surprised at their kimchi itself. It has a sweet and savory taste to it, and it seems like a rather fresh batch of kimchi as it wasn't very sour, thus not fermented for too long. The taste is just right, and Mysterio highly recommend it. Other side dishes are good, but nothing to wow at.

The meat combo also comes with a kimchi stew as well as one bowl of rice. It wasn't sure that the rice is usually served as 2 bowls but because Mysterio order jajang noodle, thus only gave us one bowl.

Anyway, kimchi stew is cooked with older kimchi as it is more sour and has a different vegetable used.

Now for the main highlight.... Meat Combo KBBQ!

The combo also comes with 2 slice of pumpkins, 1 cut section of onions and 2 thin slice of oyster mushrooms. What is shown above is what we got for the meat combo.

As the meat was being cooked by the handsome oppa, we didn't take much photos of the cooking process. However, it was noted that he had to attend to multiple table at once, thus the picture below shows some charred parts (maybe slightly overcooked). Partly it might be our fault too because we could have help to flip it to prevent overcooking.

Nevertheless, the beef ribeye is still very tender and soft, but not as juicy as Mysterio thought it should be. The pork belly also isnt as juicy, but it was more on the crispy side, kind of like the Chinese roasted pork belly. Last but not least, the marinated pork belly. Mysterio is quite pleased with the marinated pork belly as it was well marinated and maybe it was cooked at the side of the hotplate, it was able to maintain its juiciness, truly mouth watering experience.

Verdict:

Mysterio rated it 4/5 stars

Taste: Marinated pork belly is the best experience for us as it is able to fully bring out the flavor of the pork, paired with the well marinated sauce. Other dishes are good as well, but not as amazing/spectacular.

Price: Meat combo and other dishes is relatively okay for the price considering the location as well as other KBBQ stalls in the mall.

Service: Fast service when you enter the restaurant, but you must enter the restaurant to get your seats, else they wont entertain you.
