Mysterio ate @ Mei Ling Market & Food Centre

Mei Ling Market & Food Centre is located right in the heart of Queenstown. It offers many options of food choices for people in the area, as well as a fairly large wet market just right at level 1. Great for people that are looking to purchase their fresh groceries then head for breakfast just above at level 2.

With so many options to choose from, Mysterio is only able to get to try 2 stalls. The first stall is Beo Crescent Lor Mee. The first stall that caught Mysterio eyes is this long queue of customers queuing for this lor mee, so being a typical Singaporean, of course its to join the queue.

Beo Crescent Lor Mee

Looking at the menu, only 3 options of food choice available. Mysterio always believe that for which ever for stall, the lesser their menu, the better the food.

Beo Crescent Lor Mee sells:

  • Traditional Lor Mee

  • Fried Fish Lor Mee

  • Signature Lor Mee

Only 2 person is managing the entire lor mee stall, so there is a slight amount of wait time for each order. Each order are made on the spot, with the ingredients being plated in.

Finally time for the verdict: A first glance, the lor mee has quite a lot of ingredients, Fried fish, braised egg, braised duck, crispy fried flour. Additional condiments are added which are optional, vinegar, chili paste, minced garlic.

The noodle in the lor mee is the flat yellow noodle, its soft but slightly mushy, a bit overcooked. As for the sauce wise, when everything is mixed well, it has a hint of savory taste, slighlty sweet, that blends well with the vinegar, not too overpowering to cover the gravy. The chili is slightly spicy and also wont overpower other taste.

Verdict:

Mysterio rated it 4/5 stars. The noodle of this stall is a bit too soft, which is slightly overcooked, however, the sauce and ingredients is really good that it becomes the saving grace of it.

Next up on the list is Hup Kee Teochew Fishball Mee. There are quite a lot of fishball noodle stall in Mei Ling Market & Food Centre. It even won a Michelin 2023, so it must be good.

The stall owner took their time to prepare the noodle, even has a timer to time the cooking time for the noodle, indeed worthy as they seems to take great pride in producing consistent texture for their noodle.

The noodle is on the slightly harder texture, but it is definitely better than most Mee Pok noodle out there. The sauce wise, it has a hint of vinegar, chili and tomato sauce, but pairs really well together. It was already well mixed for you, just need a bit of stirring to coat more sauce onto the noodle.

As for the fish ball, it is definitely the softest fish ball Mysterio has eaten. Even though its soft, it is very bouncy. For the handmade fishball, it is soft and has more ingredients mixed in it. However, Mysterio finds its slightly bland for the fish balls. Thus, it is better to be eaten together with the noodle, where the harder texture of the noodle blends well with the soft texture of the fish ball noodle. On the side note, the chili is quite spicy, so do note if you dont have higher spiciness tolerance.

Final Verdict:

Hup Kee Teochew Fishball Mee

Mysterio rated it 4.5/5 stars. The fish ball is very soft and bouncy, when paired with the noodle, a perfect balance of texture. T
